Methodology and data sources

How storeofvalue.net sources everyday prices for each country, converts Bitcoin prices into local currencies and labels the quality of every value.

Bitcoin prices

Monthly Bitcoin prices in U.S. dollars come from mempool.space. Other currencies use the same month's average European Central Bank reference exchange rate, so every currency follows one consistent method back to 2010. Yearly figures are the average of the monthly prices; the current year is year-to-date and marked provisional. Incomplete early years (2010) are excluded.

Everyday prices

Each product has its own method, shown on its page: for example a house is the average price per square metre × 60 m², and gasoline is the average pump price × a 55-litre tank × 26 fills per year. We prefer official statistics offices, central banks and regulators. When an official value for a year is not published, the year is left out rather than invented.

Data-quality labels

Every value carries one of these labels, visible in the year-by-year table of each product:

We are progressively replacing legacy values with re-verified official series. Spotted an error? Tell us.
